Matt’s Opinion on our film opening
Matt said we should let the film give the audience information what the characters in the film do not know, so the switch-bait between the drivers.

Laura and Maddy leave a building after a long-boring-tiring Job interview, they say goodbye and she gets into the taxi.

After proposing our idea to the director, Matt, he brought up some changes that we must make in our sequence. We will lose the pizza bit and instead, we will insert Maddy getting in the second car trying to follow Laura. Through the long narrow openings of Radnor Rd. the taxi with Laura in it disappears, she attempts to get into contact with her and after several tries she finally gets into contact. While on the phone Laura says that she got home safely and that's when the kidnapper locks the doors in Maddy's and the scene ends with eye contact between the driver and Maddy thru the top mirror.

Test Shoot No.2

Props needed:
Costume – Taxi driver is wearing light, coloured clothing. This taxi driver is the good driver and was the one who was supposed to pick up the girl

2 different phones for the girls in the taxi (the girls will have them)

Using a car from the taxi company (green-coloured car)

(green car)

The other dodge taxi driver (2nd car that pulls up) is wearing darker, more negative clothing compared to the first taxi driver but in the same coloured taxi.

We don’t need any set design because the sequence will happen outside and the light will be natural light
Dave needed at 9:30am on Wednesday 17 Jan to act as a dodge taxi driver.
We will use the car Dave has ‘Opel Astra’ to be used as the dodge taxi.

(grey car)

Shot-reverse-shot to show the continuous sequence in our shooting. The next photo is an example of a shot-reverse-shot.

Location:

The location of where we are filming is the main Hurtwood House, we will film the scene from 10:00am-10:35am. We’ll need the taxi driver and Dave’s car at these timings. The filming will be made on the soil, hopefully in the middle of the car park just so the audience has a sense of the surrounding area of the characters.

Cast:

Dave as the dodge taxi driver
Nadeyia as the coffee woman
James as the director
Vahe is sound effect
Sasha is lightning

Lighting:

We will use only natural lighting, no set lightning. At the times that we are filming it should be bright enough and we hope there will be no rain to make us reschedule our timings.

How we will shoot the taxi:

the first taxi pulls up and we have an over the shoulder shot of the taxi from the girls view,
long shot of the doors and a long to mid-shot of the doors opening,
a inside mid-shot of the girls,
a shot-reverse-shot from inside hall way,
close-up of car wheels on the soil as the car pulls into the shot,
a close up on the driving-wheel with just the hands seen (no face nor clothing revealed),
a mid-shot from cars behind,
girl gets into the car with a mid-shot,
long shot of the car leaving,

How we will shoot the dodge taxi (Opel Astra):

a new car pulls in with a long-shot, (with a girl in H.W.) (a long shot in a new car, Dave is visible)
Dave pulls up to the girl, over-the-shoulder shot, conversation (the driver tricks the girl.)
Phoebe asks if the driver is here, for a 'Freya', over-the-shoulder shot
Driver answers 'yes'
Girl opens the door and enters the car, shot from behind.
Mid-close-up shot of the girl in the backseat on her phone (trying to contact friend)
Long shot of car racing out of the car park (Props: Car)
a close-up of the girls facial expression as she becomes surprised and she has a shocked facial expression (the girl is alarmed while the car is at high speed)
a close-up of girl ringing her friend multiple times (urgently tells Driver to go to GATWICK)
Close-up of the worried girl (phone held in hand)
Close-up of the phone ringing her friend
Girl answers immediately.
The worried girl asks 'where are you?'
The friend replies she is already at home
We get to see the normal facial expression of the worried girl looking into the drivers rear-mirror
The driver looks back at the girl with aggressive eyes at the girl through the mirror
A mid-shot of the girl surprised and terrified
a Close-up of the doors window, the door is unlocked in this shot
the door is locked in this shot (same close-up as previous shot)
END (Cut-away)

Evaluation of my personal feeling about the shoot:

The day of the shoot we started to shoot our group film opening from 9:30am till 12:30pm on Wed 17 Jan 2018. We filmed outside the main entrance of Hurtwood House and it was a nice weather in which we shot our film. We did though experience some trouble whilst we filmed such as when cars drove into the scene we had to try and ask the owners to move their car out of our shot in order for the scene to follow through. I was in control of the microphone and had to keep it out of shot of the camera whilst we filmed.

At first I held the microphone above the camera but it was very tiring of holding it for an extend time period, the most uncomfortable time I had to record was when I had to get into the car and lie on the floor next to the backseat when the conversation was between the driver and the girl outside the front left window and when I had to keep it still when the girl was in the backseat of the car whilst I was in the front seat for the next shot.

(Picture above is me and Vahe holding the equipment for our film)

The day before the shoot we prepared as a group and talked about who/what/where is going to be and do, so on the day of the shoot, we all knew our own individual roles and what we had to do on the day of the shoot.
When I woke up the morning of the shoot I looked over our shot list we made as a group and we made sure that there were no gaps in our shoot to work out smoothly.

We filmed outside the main hurtwood house and we already knew where the characters had to stand and where the car had to arrive to in order for the shoot to work, big thanks to Jason for bringing his car and being in our film. We divided the roles by - Jason being the dodge taxi driver, Pheobe being the girl who worries about her friend getting into the wrong car, Emily was the girl who gets into the first car, Vahe was the camera person filming the scene, Sasha was the person holding the microphone above/below the camera. James was directing/holding the light reflecting panel and Nadieya held the reflector also.
(This is a picture of use filming the inside of the car)

(This picture is Matt helping us out with filming the car door)
I personally think I did a good job of having the microphone close enough for the actors to be heard and far enough from the cameras' view. I think we could have improved on our timings at the start of the day but we finished in time and we did not rush our film. I think I managed my job well enough of holding the mic and getting the sound clear enough because I moved the mic with minimal of my footsteps to be heard. The thing I enjoyed the most while holding the mic was when I was walking with the people in the scene and had to keep up with their pace of walking. I'm looking mostly for the great content we filmed in our editing and how it will look, hopefully as good as we expect it to be after editing. I personally think we worked well as a team and we all worked very well and cooperatively and listen to each other's problems during the shoot and solved them. We've learnt that in order to make a 2-3 minute film opening it takes longer then I would have expected it to film everything we need for the opening to flow, the different camera angles needed and to make sure it makes sense in editing, I think that we have learnt that we must not rush the shooting for it to look good at the end of the day and keep up the high quality filming in our future shootings for our films.

(These pictures are Matt showing us the distance at which to film the girls and me holding the microphone from below)

Costume - There were 3 different outfits worn by 3 different girls, the girl who gets into the first taxi wore a black winter coat and grey trousers whilst we filmed her getting into the car. The second girl worn white trainers, black jeans and a black coat. The third girl wore grey sporty trousers, a pink jumper and a black coat. The doggy driver wears a black jacket, a bright coloured shirt and a blue tie whilst behind the wheel.

Expression - Both of the girls had a facial expression of boredom after the meeting they had in the building come out from, the girls walk out of the building in a slow pace movement, the girl calls her friend in distress and in a panic matter, she gets into the car in a quick pace and in an 'out-of-breath' manner so she doesn't notice who the driver is because all she is worrying about is about her friend, whilst she is on the phone with her friend we could see she gets more terrified as she finds that her friend is safe at home and that she got into the wrong car as

Props - The black Mercedez car which picks up the girl in. The second girl had a phone which is shown in the sequence whilst she calls her friend whilst in distress in the car as she gets kidnapped.

Shot Types - We had a variety of shots used within the takes, we used the Black Magic camera which had very good quality whilst filming and during post-production the quality will be also good, the sequence starts from a mid-shot to a close-up on the girls when they walk out of the door, there is an over the shoulder shot when one of the girls leans on the window on the left side of the car to give the audience a perspective from the girl when she was talking to the driver. We had a low angle shot when we filmed the other girl opening the door on the left side and sitting down inside the car. We also had shots inside the car, from the front passengers' seat point of view when the driver tells the girl to be careful and drives off, a shot from the drivers side onto the girl, we didn't have any shots from the back of the car onto the driver from the girls perspective.

Editing of our Film Opening:

We used Premiere Pro to edit our film on Apple computer, we used a long cut when the 2 girls leave the building for about 25 seconds then we have a side shot and an over-the-shoulder shot when they hugged and when they waved goodbye to each other while one of the girls being in the car. A Close-Up over the shoulder from the girls’ point of view of the driver. The shots all flow very smoothly with each other from the time she speaks to the driver, to the time of her getting into the car making the editing continuous. We did get all the shots we needed so it is good that we do not have to reshoot any of the shots. The editing also makes the girl seem vulnerable while the driver is superior.

We added different titles to our sequence to reveal the characters names as they appear on screen, this is more efficient as the audience will know straight away who is acting.

We are going to add titles of who the actors are in the sequence, Phoebe and Emily. At the beginning of the sequence, we are going to add the title of the sequence which is

We used Art of Title to research different title sequences how they differentiate and how they might seem similar.

We are using natural sound from the environment such as the wind and the car driving up to the door and also the sound of the actors’ dialogue. All of our sounds came from our filming location such as the door opening and closing and when the characters are walking on the gravel we have the sound of the gravel being stepped on. All of these sounds are diegetic sounds such as when the car pulls up to the house.
Yes, we created all the sound by our self and we might add a sound effect of the car's doors closing and maybe some sound of the movement of the car.

Well, we will use the natural sounds in the sequence such as the wind blowing and the girls walking on gravel.

Also when the car pulls up we hear the sound of the engine and the sound of the doors opening and closing when the second girl gets into the car.

1      Mastering continuity

The continuity of the sequence flows through the sequence from the start to finish, we have a long duration shot of the girls moving from the house towards the car and then we have different types of shots, such as over the shoulder shot as the girls hug, when she gets into the car we also have an over the shoulder but from the other girl on the outside. The girls’ names appeared on screen when they separated and as Emily gets into the car we see hers name and when Phoebe waves at the girl in the car as seen through a reflexion.  As the other car drives another car drives into the shot and the dodge drivers’ name appears on the screen. There is an over the shoulder shot of the girl asking the driver if he came to pick up Emily from the girls perspective and then it switches to an over the shoulder shot form the drivers perspective, there are 4 switches in total during this scene between the girl and the driver. There is a shot from inside the car of the girl opening the car door with another title of who made the cast then a switch between the driver and the girl and another two title appears of who the footage was edited by and produced by. The shot changes to a close up of the driver talking to the girl through the rear-view mirror where he makes eye contact with her and it goes back to her to see her facial expression of distress.

DIGETIC AND NON-DIGETIC SOUND IN OUR SEQEUNCE:

_____________________________________________________________

Finished sounds in our sequence:

We added intense sound at the start of the sequence with the titles to set the mood of the sequence, it's like a quite low tone trumpet and it starts while it fades in and fades out as the scene with the girls begin.

When the girls walk at the start of the sequence, there is no background sounds, when the second car drives up there is a very windy intense sound playing whilst she speaks to the driver and it plays out to spooky sounds and at the end, it fades out to a high pitched tone. The sounds at the beginning and at the end are similar but at the end, it sounds more intense then at the beginning.

THRILLER

I’ve learnt how to use the camera technology and the computer technology within the process from Pre-production towards Post-Production

We shot our sequence outside of the main Hurtwood House from 9am till 3pm and we were able to get all the shots we needed for our sequence. We used a camera called Black Magic Camera to film our sequence for the better quality and stability. During the filming, I’ve learnt that the camera detects sounds very easy so a small volume sound could disturb the scene so when we were in the post-production stage we used a loud thriller sound which increases in volume throughout the sequence.

During post-production we edited our film on a computer and we had enough shots to deal with so it did not cause many problems during editing, when we edited our sequence fully it looked very basic with the type of shots it has but that is a reason it worked well to create a thriller feeling, I’ve spent a reasonable amount of time editing bits of the thriller opening and my friends who I worked gave me feedback on how well I did my part and I also gave feedback on my friends work and how they could have improved.

Overall I think that I have learnt how to use a black magic camera to film all the necessary shots in our sequence from an Extreme Close-up to an Extreme Longshot and that the camera has to be stable to in order for the sequence to flow smoothly after the sequence is fully edited. After the filming, I've learned how to use Premire Pro to edit our sequence and learnt new skills such as how to make a shot flow into a different shot without making it too obvious of the shot change making changes towards the position of the centre of an object being filmed and also teamwork, how teamwork can affect the whole production part, luckily we all worked as a team and we didn't struggle with getting specific shots for our film and I was happy that we did storyboardes in pre-production because it really helped us as a team to easily visualise what we were planning to film and how we were going to achieve that but even though they were deleted it still gave us an idea of how we were going to film the seqeunce.
