Film Analysis: FURY
My Film Poster Analysis: FURY (2014)
This is a film poster which shows us 5 men who seem to be
the main characters and are important in a warzone by the looks of how dirty
they are, the fact that they have a tank with the nametag ‘Fury’ on the barrel
and by their facial expression of surprised, terrified and unhappy on the
poster. This poster allows the audience to know what the film will be about
without even having to watch the trailer. The marketing of the image of the
film shows that the genre of the film is a war, drama genre.
The props used are the tank, army uniform which is worn by
everyone in the poster, a M1917 Colt Revolver .45 on the right side hanging of
the character standing up which is relevant to the genre. The colour of the
poster represent a dark tone of the film about war and attracts an audience
which is interested into this type of genre.
The image shows a real life scale of the people compared to
the tank, the tank and 4 other people are in the background and only one person
is in the foreground which shows who is more important. The image includes the
main cast and the directors just below the title of the film, Columbia Pictures
distributed this film and Sony started to assemble the cast on the 3rd
April 2013. The film was written and directed by: David Ayer. E3 Expo promoted
this film in 2014 and this film got an age rating of 15 by the British Board of
Classification.
The person standing up and closest to the foreground is
probably the main character from his posture of standing-up and his facial
expression of being surprised, he also wears something different compared to
everyone else in the poster. I think that this character will be a good human
in the film but might be strict in things he doesn’t like.
The person sitting on the tank on the left-side of the
poster seems mysterious, he might be good or bad we don’t know because of how
his posture and his facial expression of either guilt or anger is shown.
The person sitting at the top of the tank without a hat
seems very young compared to everyone else in the poster, he seems as if he is
20-28 and everyone else is 35 or above which might show that he will be treated
as a victim due to his age and will have to do things that he doesn’t want to
do and the other 4 people will force him to do them.
The person sitting on the middle of the tank with a hat is
shown as being foreign as compared to the other 4 people because his skin tone
is darker and everyone else is white. His facial expression shows pain, agony
and stress and his body language shows us that he might not be sure about what
he is doing here but he will still do it in order to have trust with the other
people in the poster.
The person standing on the right hand side of the poster
resting against the tank with his hands behind his back has a facial expression
of being afraid also and he seems as if he about to cry from what he is seeing
in front of him. He is also the only one who has his uniform jacket and shirt
un-buttoned which might show that he has given-up. The enigma is that we don’t
know are these people good or bad, will they try to save their country or will
they go against it and jeopardized the plan.
The USP of this poster is to attract people who enjoy
watching films with these actors such as Brad Pitt who is famously known
worldwide therefore his name is in large text above the title.
Since Brad Pitt is in action movies this attracts people who
are interested into this type of genre (Action, War), we know by the way the
poster is shown to use with its background colour and with a tank, the
characters having their faces in mud showing that there is dirt in which the
characters are represented very well of the time of these events when, there wasn’t
always water available for public use everywhere so it was hard to stay clean
in those times.
By the way the characters are portrayed with the ominous
grey background, muddied and dirtied characters suggest that it was set in a
time when there was war and resources such as water was scarce.
