The Rule of Thirds is a concept in video and film production in which the frame is divided into nine imaginary sections, as shown on the right. This creates reference points which act as guides for framing the image.Points (or lines) of intrest should occur at 1/3 or 2/3 of the way up (or across) the frame, rather than in the centre.
In most 'people shots', the main line of intrest is the line going through the eyes. In this shot, the eyes are placed approximately 1/3 of the way down the frame. You have to make sure you film the same subject from the same height so that the scene flows smoothly through-out.
Depth Effect is the distance between the nearest and the furthest objects giving a focused image. This might represent which characters are more important in the scene such as when one character is talking to another, the focus will be focused on the person talking and vise-versa.
Tips for filming a sequence:
- Do not rush your film
- Have more filming time then less so that if one particular scene doesn't work out, make sure you have other options
- Keep the camera at the same level of film a particular scene so that the flow of the action carries on.
Call Outs:
- Standy-by
- Rolling Camera
- Action
- Cut
To film your own sequence you must set-up your camera at the right location to capture a specific camera angle. I used the camera to place it in the correct position to capture the specific angle I wanted to get at the time of the shooting. I shot a bit of the sequence through the camera and the shoot was successful when we pre-viewed it.

ReplyDeleteI cannot read part of you bogged comment because it has a black background. You have some good points to make especially on depth of field and rules of thirds which you have supported with graphic illustration - I can certainly visual the techniques from these. When posting video try to embed the code and then the video will pay in the blog rather than using a link. Sound knowledge and understanding of camerawork and editing.
